Neglected in Kalimantan
Neglected in Kalimantan
From Suara Karya
We, the transmigrants at Taliyasan in Berau regency of
Kalimantan, have been settled in this area for almost a year. To
date, however, we must make do with rainwater for drinking
because there is no water treatment facility available. As a
result, many of the residents have fallen ill and have eventually
died. In addition malaria is now rampant in our province.
Surprisingly, there is no medical staff available. The local
public health center is too far away, and transportation is not
readily available. Patients often die on the way to the center. I
hope that the government pays attention to our misery.
