National Traffic Police Use Digital Technology to Monitor Eid Holiday Travel Surge
Irjen Pol Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the National Traffic Police (Korlantas Polri), stated that monitoring of the 2026 Eid holiday travel surge will be conducted using digital technology. The system enables the police to obtain real-time traffic data.
The technology helps officers determine vehicle flow management measures during the travel period. “We are already using digital technology to monitor, decide, and collect real data as the basis for decision-making,” Agus said during an inspection of the Ketupat Lodaya 2026 Unified Operation Post of the West Java Regional Police at Rest Area KM 57 on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road on Sunday (15 March 2026).
The technology-based monitoring is used to track vehicle volume developments on major routes heading to the Trans Java corridor. Collected traffic data forms the basis for determining vehicle flow management policies on toll roads.
Agus explained that traffic engineering measures such as contraflow and one-way schemes are being prepared to anticipate the surge in vehicles during peak travel periods. Vehicle flow predictions are also calculated using data monitored through the digital system. “It is estimated that 17 to 18 March will be the peak period. Traffic management parameters will then be implemented, including one-way and contraflow measures,” he said.
He commended the readiness of the Ketupat Lodaya Unified Operation Post, which is integrated with technology infrastructure support. The post serves as the coordination centre for traffic flow monitoring during the holiday travel period.
