National Traffic Police Chief (Kakorlantas) Irjen Agus Suryonugroho reported a 15.5% decline in traffic accidents during the initial days of Operation Ketupat 2026, with fatality rates dropping by 38.9%.

“We are reporting a reduction in accident incidents of 15.50%, and fatality numbers have decreased by 38.9%,” Irjen Agus stated at the National Traffic Police Command Centre in Cikarang, West Java, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

Irjen Agus noted that no significant public security and order incidents had been recorded during the first five days of Operation Ketupat 2026, though vehicle volumes continued to increase throughout the evening and traffic management measures remained in place.

“No noteworthy incidents have occurred during these five days of operations,” he said.

PT Jasa Marga Managing Director Rivan A Purwantono reported that 1.1 million vehicles had departed Jakarta by 22.00 WIB on Tuesday evening, representing 32% of the projected traffic volume and a continued increase from previous days.

“Vehicle flows from Jakarta have reached 1.1 million units, which constitutes 32% of the projection and has continued to rise from previous days,” said Rivan.

Jasa Marga, the National Traffic Police, and the Ministry of Transport have coordinated comprehensive traffic management strategies, including partial one-way systems implemented on Tuesday afternoon.

“In coordination with the Minister of Transport and the National Traffic Chief, we have implemented the first phase of partial one-way measures, with projections suggesting evening flows could increase to 34% or 1.2 million vehicles,” Rivan explained.

Operation Ketupat 2026 is scheduled to run for two weeks from 13 to 25 March 2026, with authorities expecting approximately 143.9 million passenger trips during this year’s Eid holidays.
