Medan (ANTARA) — The National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN) for North Sumatra province is focusing on repairing road sections in five areas following disasters that struck at the end of November 2025.

BBPJN North Sumatra head Hardy Siahaan said the five areas undergoing repairs are Central Tapanuli Regency, South Tapanuli Regency, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Tapanuli Regency, and the city of Sibolga.

"Approximately 500 kilometres in those areas are undergoing repairs following the disasters, alongside routine road maintenance," Hardy said in South Tapanuli, North Sumatra, on Tuesday.

He said several road sections being repaired include those from Tarutung to Sipirok to Padangsidimpuan, Sibolga to Batang Toru to Padangsidimpuan, and Batang Toru to Singkuang.

"Of those 500 kilometres, repairs are still below 20 per cent, covering some 235 points. Intensive work is being carried out on approximately 40 to 50 kilometres," he said.

Hardy said the obstacles faced in repairing the road sections include weather conditions that have caused further landslides in the affected areas.

"Additionally, road reconstruction requires detailed designs that must be calculated precisely," he said.

The agency continues to focus on handling disaster-affected roads and ensuring these sections are fully functional ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026.

Hardy added that a total of 2,600 kilometres of national roads in North Sumatra undergo routine and regular maintenance.
