National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency Arrests Interpol Fugitive in International Online Fraud Case
Indonesia’s National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) has arrested an Interpol fugitive with the initials LCS in connection with an international online fraud case. Director of Cybercrime at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, stated that the Indonesian citizen was apprehended upon arriving at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Sunday (3/5). He explained that the fugitive LCS is a suspect in a cross-border online fraud case involving an international network operating in Cambodia. “A joint Polri team has successfully arrested an Indonesian citizen (WNI) with the initials LCS, who is on Interpol’s international wanted list (Red Notice),” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (5/4). Himawan noted that the perpetrator LCS is recorded as having committed fraud in 23 cases reported across all regional police commands. He added that these dozens of cases involving LCS have now been taken over by Bareskrim to facilitate the investigation process and case filing. Based on examination results, he stated that LCS played the role of operator in executing the online fraud using a platform named “abbishopee”. Before arresting LCS, he said, investigators had also captured three other suspects. The three suspects from LCS’s network have already been sentenced by the South Jakarta District Court. “The arrest of suspect LCS is the result of cross-country cooperation and coordination, as well as a demonstration of our seriousness in addressing cybercrime perpetrators, particularly online fraud that harms the wider public,” Himawan explained. Furthermore, Himawan said that LCS is currently being examined by investigators at Bareskrim Polri. He emphasised that investigators will continue to develop this case to uncover a wider network. “We will continue to pursue developments to uncover the involved international network, as well as trace the flow of funds from the crimes for the recovery of victims’ losses,” said the one-star Police general.
