The Head of the National Police’s Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Irjen Agus Suryonugroho stated that Operation Ketupat 2026 is not merely a traffic management operation, but rather a humanitarian initiative designed to ensure the safety and security of citizens during the Ramadan to Eid al-Fitr period, reflecting the presence of both the state and the National Police in serving the community.

“Operation Ketupat is not simply a traffic operation, nor merely securing the flow of mudik (holiday exodus) and return traffic. Rather, the state and the National Police are present among the people to ensure that the period of the Holy Month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr proceeds safely, orderly, and free from criminal activity whilst maintaining smooth traffic flow,” Agus stated in a written statement on Saturday (28 February).

Building on this, the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has adopted the tagline ‘Safe Mudik, Happy Family’ as the primary spirit guiding all National Police personnel in delivering services to the public.

Agus identified five key clusters requiring security attention to ensure the safety and comfort of holiday travellers: toll roads, national or regency roads, ferry ports, places of worship, and tourist sites. These areas have been identified and designated as special priorities in preparation for the smooth implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026.

“This includes identifying and securing crowds at tourist destinations across Indonesia, as well as alternative routes to these destinations. Similarly, we are also securing airports, terminals, and railway stations,” he added.

Agus further emphasised that Operation Ketupat extends beyond merely securing the journey to one’s hometown. It encompasses ensuring citizens’ safety during departure, safety when gathering with family, and their safe and happy return home.
