Kakorlantas Polri (National Police Traffic Chief) Irjen Pol Agus Suryonugroho has emphasised that vehicle queues in the Gilimanuk Port area do not constitute traffic congestion. The density occurs because vehicles are waiting their turn to cross to Ketapang Port.

“At Gilimanuk there is a long queue, yes. It’s different. If it’s a queue, it means waiting to cross. If it’s congestion, it means traffic is obstructed on the road. So there’s a difference,” said Agus during a press statement at the Korlantas Police Command Centre in Cikampek, West Java, on Sunday (15 March 2026).

He explained that the situation has been influenced by an increase in vehicles crossing early. This situation has also been triggered by the proximity of the Idul Fitri holiday to the celebration of Nyepi (Balinese New Year) in Bali.

The police have coordinated with the Ministry of Transport to increase the ship fleet in order to speed up the vehicle crossing process.

“According to us, there is congestion and a slowdown with long queues at Gilimanuk, that’s true. But there is already a solution. We have coordinated with the Ministry of Transport and there has even been a redeployment of ships to speed up the crossing,” said Agus.

He also conveyed the latest monitoring results of Operation Ketupat showing that traffic conditions in several areas remain under control. Monitoring was carried out jointly with the National Police Chief in East Java.
