National Police Intensify Terrorism Prevention Measures for Eid al-Fitr 2026
JAKARTA — Indonesia’s National Police (Polri) are intensifying terrorism prevention measures ahead of and during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 celebrations.
Specialist counter-terrorism units have been deployed to detect potential terrorist activity. Irjen Pol Johnny Eddizon Isir, Head of Polri’s Public Relations Division, stated that the National Police Chief has issued directives, particularly to the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-Terror unit, to maintain heightened situational awareness.
“The National Police Chief has given his attention and directed colleagues from Densus 88 Anti-Terror to continuously strengthen the mapping process,” Isir said in an interview at Polri’s Public Relations Division headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
He emphasised that these measures are necessary because Eid al-Fitr celebrations have both religious and social dimensions, requiring protection to ensure the festivities can proceed safely and comfortably for the public.
“In principle, colleagues from Densus 88 Anti-Terror will continue implementing efforts ranging from intelligence gathering to preventive strike strategies as needed,” he added.
The operation involves 389,681 combined personnel throughout Indonesia. To support the operation’s implementation, Polri has established 2,756 security posts, comprising security checkpoints, service posts, and integrated posts at various strategic locations.
Security efforts are also focused on protecting 185,544 sites across Indonesia. These include 121,796 mosques, 54,516 Eid prayer locations, 4,640 tourist attractions, 2,962 shopping centres, 618 terminals, 562 ports, 268 railway stations, and 182 airports, as well as various other crowded public gathering points.
