Indonesia’s National Police Headquarters has affirmed that there will be no tolerance for any officers involved in drug abuse or trafficking cases.

The statement was made by the National Police’s Public Relations Division Head, Inspector General Jhonny Edison Isir, in connection with the arrest of North Toraja District Police Narcotics Unit Head AKP Arifan Efendi and Narcotics Sub-Unit Head Aiptu Nasrul over a drug-related case.

Jhonny said that National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo had on numerous occasions affirmed his commitment to law enforcement against narcotics offenders, including those involving police personnel.

“The National Police Chief, as the leader of the force, has on various occasions affirmed a strong commitment to law enforcement against narcotics offenders, with no exception for police personnel,” Jhonny told reporters on Monday (23/2).

“There is no tolerance and no special treatment, especially for police personnel involved in drug abuse and trafficking networks,” he added.

Jhonny said the action taken against the narcotics unit head and sub-unit head of North Toraja District Police served as concrete proof of the force’s commitment to combating narcotics.

“The action taken against the narcotics unit head and sub-unit head of North Toraja District Police by the South Sulawesi Regional Police is concrete evidence and a tangible manifestation of the police leadership’s commitment and firmness being carried out by all regional units in the eradication of narcotics in Indonesia,” he said.

Previously, AKP Arifan Efendi, the head of the narcotics unit at the North Toraja District Police, was arrested in connection with a drug trafficking case in North Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi. He was apprehended along with the narcotics sub-unit head, Aiptu Nasrul.

“That is correct. We have already placed them under Special Placement for preliminary examination,” said the South Sulawesi Regional Police Professional and Security Division Head, Zulham Efendy, on Sunday (22/2).

The case originated when a man identified by the initials ET, alias O, was arrested by Tana Toraja District Police personnel for possessing 100 grammes of methamphetamine.

During questioning, ET implicated officers from the North Toraja District Police who had allegedly been receiving weekly payments of Rp 13 million since September 2025.

“This will be investigated further to determine the extent of involvement and the respective roles of each individual,” Zulham said.

Furthermore, Zulham affirmed that his office would take firm action against any police officers involved in drug trafficking cases, stating there was no place within the force for members implicated in narcotics offences.
