National Police Confirms Disaster-Affected Highways in Sumatra Open for 2026 Eid Holiday Travel
JAKARTA — Polri headquarters has announced that main highways in disaster-affected areas of Sumatra are now operational for the 2026 Eid holiday exodus, though some routes remain under restoration.
Irjen Johnny Eddizon Isir, Head of Polri’s Public Relations Division, stated that whilst certain routes are still undergoing full recovery, the principal highways can be utilised. “For routes still in the process of 100 per cent recovery, we will provide further updates. However, the main routes can be put into operation,” said Isir at Polri’s Public Relations Division headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
Isir urged travellers on these routes to exercise caution and prioritise road safety. “We call upon those travelling these roads to maintain concentration, take care of their physical condition, drive courteously and sensibly, especially when travelling with family,” he said.
The police have implemented comprehensive security measures to facilitate smooth holiday travel. A total of 2,756 security posts have been established, comprising security checkpoints, service posts, and integrated centres.

Polri has also implemented traffic management measures to anticipate vehicle congestion during the holiday period. Peak homebound travel is predicted to occur on 13 and 17 March 2026, whilst peak return travel is expected on 24 and 28 March 2026.
