National Police Chief Urges Mudik Travellers to Prioritise Safety: Don't Rush, Rest if Fatigued
Jakarta – National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has appealed to all citizens travelling home for Eid al-Fitr (mudik) to maintain personal safety as a priority. He urged travellers not to push themselves to travel quickly if their bodies are experiencing fatigue.
“My message is to please be careful on the road. Don’t force yourself to travel fast—take it easy and rest,” said Sigit following a Ramadan safari visit to the East Java Regional Police Headquarters on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
He emphasised the appeal to help the public avoid undesirable incidents. By prioritising caution, mudik travellers will be able to experience the full joy of gathering with family to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
“So we can meet our families at our destinations in good health,” Sigit said.
Sigit explained that the police and all stakeholders have coordinated to prepare rest posts that can be utilised by mudik travellers throughout Indonesia. He outlined the various facilities being made available.
“We’ve prepared places for rest. If someone feels exhausted, there are rest areas, integrated service posts, and service facilities that can be used for rest. We’ve also prepared various facilities including breaking-the-fast meals, dawn meal preparations, and health checks,” Sigit said.
The police have committed from the outset to providing service and security for the public undertaking the mudik journey, according to Sigit.
“So I want to ensure that we keep accident numbers down, the mudik proceeds well, and the police are ready to provide the best service to the public carrying out mudik for Eid al-Fitr in 2026,” Sigit said.
