National Police Chief Urges Bus Drivers to Prioritise Safety During Lebaran Exodus
Sidoarjo, East Java — Indonesia’s National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has reminded bus drivers at Type A Purabaya Terminal in Sidoarjo, East Java, to prioritise passenger safety during the 2026 Lebaran holiday exodus.
“We have also conducted inspections of bus drivers, including health checks and urine tests related to alcohol content,” said the National Police Chief at Purabaya Terminal in Sidoarjo on Sunday.
According to him, this measure represents the Indonesian National Police’s effort, together with all relevant parties, to reduce accident rates during the exodus period.
The National Police Chief explained that in addition to inspections of bus drivers, the police together with the local Transportation Agency have conducted various fitness tests on bus fleets.
He assessed that the prime condition of drivers and the fitness of bus fleets are crucial factors in implementing 2026 Lebaran transport to deliver migrant workers to their destinations safely and comfortably.
The National Police Chief also urged bus drivers to take adequate rest and bring backup drivers for long-distance journeys.
“Take sufficient rest and prepare a backup driver to avoid fatigue that could cause accidents,” he said.
On this occasion, he also requested all joint personnel in the field to provide the best service to the public and respond quickly to any complaints from migrant workers.
The National Police Chief noted that Type A Purabaya Terminal has experienced a surge in passenger numbers of approximately 30 per cent over the past week. Meanwhile, the peak exodus from Purabaya Terminal in Sidoarjo is predicted for 17-20 March 2026.
