National Police Chief Urges All Sectors of Society to Unite in Building the Nation
Jakarta — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has called upon all segments of Indonesian society to unite and work together in building the Indonesian nation.
According to Sigit, this objective can be achieved if all elements work in synergy and maintain the values of national unity and cohesion.
Sigit made this appeal whilst attending a joint breaking of the fast event with the Executive Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union (PB SEMMI) in Jakarta on Thursday.
“This activity continues to strengthen the bonds of kinship between us and we work together to contribute to and build the nation,” Sigit said in an official statement.
He explained that the National Police (Polri) is the frontline institution in maintaining public security and order, enforcing the law, and providing protection, care and public services. This represents a mandate from the Constitution extending through to the reformation period.
For this reason, Sigit stressed that Polri and PB SEMMI share common ground as products of the reformation movement.
“Therefore, we will continue to carry out this mandate,” he said.
Furthermore, Sigit invited and emphasised that Polri continues to open space for all segments of society to provide suggestions and aspirations for the future of the Police Force institution.
“On the other hand, we also ask our activist friends from SEMMI, particularly from SI, to continue to safeguard our institution so that it truly fulfils what is expected from the voices and aspirations of civil society, the voices of democracy, in order to realise a Polri that becomes a civilian police force in accordance with public expectations,” he stated.
Additionally, he requested continued support for and oversight of all efforts by President Prabowo Subianto in pursuing world peace amidst ongoing global conflicts.
“The government is also conducting various forms of diplomacy in the field of trade and how domestically we must continue to push ourselves to be able to stand on our own feet,” Sigit said.
In order to achieve national independence, he stated the government continues to promote food and energy security.
“And certainly all of this we can accomplish if we are united and consolidated to move forward together,” he added.
On another note, Sigit touched upon the demographic dividend that Indonesia will face.
According to him, this momentum must serve as a major leap to bring Indonesia to become an advanced nation that is respected in the eyes of the world.
“This is certainly our hope and we entrust to the younger generation to continue preparing themselves to fill these roles as future leaders when Indonesia becomes the Golden Indonesia in 2045,” he concluded.
