National Police Chief Strengthens Labour Desk, Calls on Workers to Protect Investment Climate
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo provided an in-depth analysis of global economic challenges facing Indonesia whilst attending a Ramadan gathering and family meeting with the All-Indonesia Workers’ Union (KSPSI) in East Java. In his remarks, the national police chief emphasised the importance of synergy between workers and government to maintain national stability amid global uncertainty.
The national police chief’s Ramadan Safari visit and gathering took place at the East Java KSPSI Regional Board office on Jalan Raya Lontar Candi Lempung, Surabaya, on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
Opening his address, General Sigit outlined the heating geopolitical situation in the Middle East, drawing attention to how the escalating conflict between Israel, the United States, and Iran had directly affected global energy stability.
“This situation requires us to be prepared. Global oil prices continue to rise, and this morning they may have already reached USD 100 per barrel. As a nation still dependent on imports, this is a major challenge for the government to keep domestic prices stable through substantial subsidies,” General Sigit stated.
Facing these challenges, the national police chief explained that President Prabowo Subianto continues to pursue active independent diplomacy to seek peace whilst securing Indonesia’s export markets. Government efforts to reduce trade barriers with the United States and European countries have begun to yield tangible results.
“The President is pushing to secure zero per cent tariffs for imports of certain commodities, such as footwear, textiles, furniture, and semiconductors. This is being done to ensure our industries survive and workers are not harmed by the sluggish global economy,” he explained. Additionally, the government is accelerating 18 strategic downstream industrialisation projects to create new jobs for the community.
Importance of Maintaining the Investment Climate
General Sigit emphasised that the key to navigating the crisis is unity and maintaining market confidence. He called on workers, particularly the KSPSI family, to be at the forefront of maintaining a conducive investment climate in Indonesia.
“For investment to come in, we need trust. I am grateful to worker comrades who fully understand this. We never prevent workers from fighting for their rights, but the industry must also continue to grow because that is our common home. If industry is healthy, workers will certainly prosper,” he said.
As a concrete step of police support, General Sigit ensured that the Police Labour Desk will continue to be strengthened and developed from the National Police Headquarters level, regional police commands, down to district police headquarters in industrial areas. This desk is dedicated to helping resolve industrial disputes.
“We want to place issues in their proper perspective. If workers have rights, those rights must be provided. Use this desk for guidance and assistance,” the national police chief stated firmly.
Beyond legal matters, the national police chief also issued specific instructions to the Police Health Services Chief Inspector General Asep Hendradiana to open all police hospitals to workers.
“All worker comrades can receive services at police hospitals with the same quality of care. I have already instructed the health division to provide maximum service to working friends,” he added.
During this agenda, the national police chief also presented aid to orphans, distributed 2,000 food aid packages to workers, and provided one unit of Hilux Rangga operational vehicle and sound system equipment to support the activities of the East Java KSPSI Regional Board.
Present at the location were East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea, and regional management officials.
The national police chief was accompanied by several National Police Headquarters command officials, including Intelligence Chief Yuda Gustawan, Human Resources Deputy Inspector General Anwar, Logistics Deputy Chief Inspector General Suwondo Nainggolan, Public Relations Chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, and Health Services Chief Inspector General Asep Hendradiana.
Also present were the Criminal Investigation Division Director as Chair of the Police Labour Desk Brigadier General Moh Irhamni, East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nanang Avianto, key officials of the East Java Police, and various district police chiefs.
