National Police Chief Praises Green Policing Programme, Describes Riau Police Chief as 'Visionary'
Indonesia’s National Police Chief (Kapolri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo expressed high appreciation for the innovative Green Policing programme initiated by the Riau Provincial Police Department (Polda Riau) in preserving the environment. General Sigit praised the initiative by Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan, describing him as visionary.
The statement was made by the National Police Chief during a Ramadan Safari visit to Riau Police Headquarters. The Ramadan Safari activities were also attended by Chair of Commission IV of the House of Representatives Siti Hediati Hariyadi (known as Titiek Soeharto), Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni, and officials from the Riau Regional Coordination Board (Forkopimda).
The National Police Chief was accompanied by senior officials from the National Police Headquarters, including the Police Intelligence and Security Commander General Yuda Gustawan, Police Criminal Investigation Chief General Syahardiantono, Mobile Brigade Commander General Ramdani Hidayat, and Police Public Relations Director Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir.
Opening his remarks, the National Police Chief outlined his series of visits to Riau, beginning with the inauguration of a bridge in Kampar Regency, followed by a visit to Tesso Nilo National Park, and concluding at Riau Police Headquarters for the inauguration of the Al-Adzim Mosque at Polda Riau and the establishment of a Task Force for Termination of Employment and Online Motorcycle Taxi Community Policing in Riau Province.
The National Police Chief subsequently highlighted the Green Policing programme of Polda Riau, which he described as a visionary initiative by Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan, commonly known as Herimen.
“With the various Green Policing activities that were just presented by the Polda Chief, indeed he is a visionary leader. So it is justified that you have a regional police chief like Pak Herimen,” said the National Police Chief in his remarks on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
“So there is no need to replace him repeatedly, is there?” the National Police Chief joked, drawing applause from attendees.
Previously, the National Police Chief and his delegation visited the Green Policing booth exhibition at Polda Riau. The booth displayed innovations by Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan and his team in supporting environmental conservation and food security.
Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan accompanied the National Police Chief and delegation during the inspection of the Green Policing booth at Polda Riau. The Riau Police Human Resources Section Chief Senior Commissioner Boy Jeckson Situmorang provided information about the various booths displayed at the location.
During the inspection, the National Police Chief visited several booths presenting data on Riau’s forests, the Green Policing programme, and Waste to Energy technology. One notable attraction was the RADAR booth (Riau Peaceful Anti Cyber Crime), an automated system that directs public reports directly to the mobile phones of regional police chiefs.
General Sigit also reviewed developments in the food security programme and received detailed reports on Polda Riau’s success in solving a recent elephant murder case.
The atmosphere at Riau Police Headquarters became more vibrant when the National Police Chief, Titiek Soeharto, and Raja Juli Antoni watched a theatrical elephant dance performance. As a symbol of support for youth creativity and environmental campaigns, the three of them took turns creating murals using spray paint (pylox) on a pre-prepared wall featuring elephant imagery. The murals were subsequently completed by professional mural artists into finished artworks.
Towards the end of the event, the delegation received souvenirs in the form of paintings presented directly by the Young Clerics and Green Policing Ambassadors of Polda Riau. After the inspection, the delegation proceeded to Al-Adzim Mosque at Polda Riau.
