National Police Chief Encourages Religious Leaders and Government Officials to Safeguard Unity During Ramadan Pilgrimage in East Java
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo conducted a Ramadan pilgrimage in East Java as part of efforts to strengthen synergy between the National Police (Polri), Islamic scholars, and government officials. The General invited all parties to reinforce national unity and cohesion.
The event was held at the Mahameru Building of the East Java Regional Police Headquarters in Surabaya on Saturday, 14 March 2026 in the evening. In attendance were the Principal Custodian of Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School and Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Anwar Mansur, Chairman of PBNU KH Miftaqul Ahyar, and Chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) KH Anwar Iskandar. Also present were Islamic scholars, religious figures and community leaders from across East Java.
Also attending were East Java Vice Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak and members of the provincial leadership coordination forum (Forkopimda). These included the East Java Regional House of Representatives Chairman Musyafak Rouf, the Commander of Military Region V/Brawijaya Major General Rudy Saladin, and the East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nanang Avianto. Religious leaders from various faiths, labour figures, arts activists, motorcycle taxi driver communities and student leaders from East Java also attended.
“Today, my delegation has been given the opportunity to conduct this Ramadan pilgrimage, and we are also beginning inspection of return travel routes as we have entered Operation Ketupat. Alhamdulillah this evening, we have been able to spend time bonding with all the religious scholars, leaders present, and members throughout East Java,” General Sigit said in his opening remarks.
“This is certainly a most noble opportunity, hopefully it will bring blessings and strengthen the bonds of fraternity that have continued to develop. In this Ramadan month full of grace, may we all be blessed in our fasting. On this occasion, we would also like to seek permission to extend our apologies, both materially and spiritually, on behalf of the Police Institution,” he continued.
General Sigit emphasised the importance of collaboration among all segments of society in maintaining public order and security, and supporting national development. He highlighted the global crisis situation in the Middle East, which has had an impact on Indonesia’s food and energy security.
“Indonesia, whether we like it or not, must be able to stand on its own feet. This certainly requires cooperation and support from all sides, from all Indonesian people,” he said.
During the agenda, General Sigit also symbolically handed over assistance, including school supplies, to representatives of orphaned children who attended. This was a demonstration of the Police’s presence amongst the community.
The event concluded with religious teachings and collective prayer led by KH Anwar Iskandar, followed by breaking the fast together.
During this visit, the National Police Chief was accompanied by a number of senior officials from the National Police Headquarters, including the Chief of Intelligence Komandonir Yuda Gustawan, the Operations Aide de Camp Komandonir Mohamad Fadil Imran, the Human Resources Deputy Chief Inspector General Anwar, the Public Relations Chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, and the Traffic Police Chief Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho.
