National Police Chief Confident Innovations at Merak Port Can Ease Eid Holiday Travel Queues
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit stated that several innovations have been implemented to relieve vehicle queues at Merak Port in Banten. He indicated that these measures are expected to facilitate the Eid holiday migration period (Mudik Idul Fitri) in 2026.
“I see there are several additional innovations that are expected to address the recurring congestion problems year after year. There are additions to buffer zones and also new port facilities,” said Sigit at Merak Port in Cilegon City, Banten, on Friday (13 March 2026).
There are three additional buffer zones in the area surrounding Merak Port. Additionally, Krakatau Bandar Samudera Port will be used as an alternative should vehicle congestion occur on the Southern Circular Road (JLS) in Cilegon.
“Of course, we hope this can be properly communicated to the public,” he said.
Sigit also requested that the command centre and media centre actively provide information to the public. He stated that public communication is important so that the latest innovations can be properly utilised.
“Providing information on matters that the public needs to know regarding new policies, as well as the online sales system that must also be known,” he said.
“This also includes arrangements across all wharfs, which also have some differences,” he added.
Sigit hopes that government-provided facilities and stimulus measures will make the holiday exodus more comfortable for travellers.
“All facilities provided by the government and stimulus given are of course expected to help alleviate the situation,” he said.
