Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has temporarily suspended the operations of 1,512 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) on Java island as a follow-up to evaluations of operational standards and infrastructure adequacy.

Albertus Dony Dewantoro, Director of Monitoring and Surveillance for Region II at BGN, stated that this measure is part of efforts to restructure the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG) to ensure all operational facilities meet established standards for health, sanitation, and governance.

“We have temporarily halted operations at 1,512 SPPG as a follow-up to evaluations assessing compliance with operational standards and infrastructure requirements at various units,” said Dony on Thursday (12 March 2026).

According to evaluation data, the 1,512 temporarily suspended SPPG are distributed across several provinces in Region II: Jakarta (50 units); Banten (62 units); West Java (350 units); Central Java (54 units); East Java (788 units); and Yogyakarta Special Region (208 units).

Dony explained that the temporary suspension was initiated because numerous SPPG had failed to meet basic operational requirements. A primary finding was that many units had not obtained Hygiene and Sanitation Compliance Certificates (SLHS). Specifically, 1,043 SPPG had not registered such certificates.

Additionally, BGN identified 443 SPPG lacking adequate wastewater treatment installations (IPAL) meeting standards. Another issue involved the absence of staff accommodation (mess) for SPPG heads, nutritionists, and accountants at 175 units — with 36 in Banten, 86 in Yogyakarta, 24 in West Java, 10 in Central Java, and 19 in East Java.

BGN will provide support and verification to affected units to enable them to promptly meet operational requirements and established standards. “Operations at suspended SPPG will be reopened in phases after all operational requirements and set standards have been fulfilled,” Dony concluded.
