JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) regulates the management of waste from the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme based on circular economy principles to ensure the programme operates in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. BGN Head Dadan Hindayana stated that waste management by Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) must be carried out comprehensively. “From planning, implementation, monitoring to reporting, prioritising circular economy principles,” said Dadan in his statement on Friday (20/3/2026). This regulation is outlined in BGN Regulation Number 1 of 2026. However, it is important for the programme’s ecosystem to support public health while preserving the environment. Dadan believes that circular economy principles are key in this regulation. “Waste is no longer viewed as an end waste, but as a resource that still has utility value through recycling processes or reuse,” he said. In the planning stage, each SPPG is required to identify potential waste generated. “Including sorting types of waste, preparing segregated collection facilities, and providing processing means such as composting and maggot cultivation,” he said. “Waste reduction efforts are carried out through limiting generation, recycling, and reusing materials that can still be used,” he added. In addition, waste management also covers handling processes such as sorting, collection, processing, and transportation, which must be carried out orderly and documented. Dadan emphasised that BGN mandates regular recording and monitoring. Starting from collecting quantitative data on the volume or weight of waste by type.
