National Losses Reach Rp857.55 Billion in 7 Illegal Mining Cases as ESDM Speaks Out
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), through its General Directorate of Law Enforcement (Gakkum), is investigating seven illegal mining cases that could potentially cause national losses of up to Rp857.55 billion.
In an Instagram post by @bakom.ri, ESDM spokesperson Dwi Anggia stated that there are two categories of illegal mining activities. The first is mining conducted without a mining business permit (IUP), and the second is mining outside the permitted area of the IUP (WIUP).
“The General Directorate of Law Enforcement of the ESDM is currently handling seven illegal mining cases,” Anggia said, as cited from Instagram @bakom.ri on Friday, 29 May 2026.
“The value of these cases amounts to Rp857.55 billion, representing potential national losses from illegal mining activities,” she added.
Anggia explained that the illegal mining sites are spread across several regions in Indonesia, including Kalimantan, Java, Sumatra, and the Maluku Islands.
She confirmed that her ministry continues to take action against illegal mining activities across Indonesia.
“To ensure Indonesia’s natural resources are fully utilised for the benefit of the public,” she said.
“This is what the ESDM is continuously addressing to ensure our natural resources are properly managed and contribute to national revenue,” she said.
