National Human Rights Commission Suspects Dozens of Perpetrators in Sulphuric Acid Attack Case on Andrie Yunus
The National Human Rights Commission is still investigating the case of the sulphuric acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The commission suspects there are more than a dozen perpetrators, in addition to the four TNI soldiers who have already become suspects.
“We have indications of more than four. A dozen,” said Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin P Siagian, during a press conference at his office on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
Saurlin stated that he had received information regarding the handover of the four suspects to the Military Auditor. However, his side believes there are other perpetrators outside of those four TNI members.
“We still believe that beyond these four individuals, there are other parties, so we are still delving into that. This means that if there are, it opens the possibility for other judicial processes to be carried out,” he explained.
Komnas HAM Commissioner Pramono Ubaid added that the investigation being conducted by Komnas HAM is still ongoing. His side also respects the process at Metro Jaya Police, which has been handed over to TNI’s Puspom.
“But we must not close off the possibility that it is as if that is the only option for holding the perpetrators accountable,” he explained.
In response, Komnas HAM continues to deepen the evidence and open avenues for law enforcement through other channels. Komnas HAM also wants to ensure that there are more than four perpetrators.
“That’s why today we are delving into other evidence, to open up the possibility that there might be other channels we can take to ensure not only the four individuals, but also potential other identified perpetrators can still be held accountable,” he explained.
