National Human Rights Commission Assesses Threats to 12 Parties in Andrie Yunus Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is conducting an assessment of at least 12 people suspected of experiencing threats related to the handling of the violence case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. This step is part of efforts to protect parties involved in the process of uncovering the case, including witnesses, supporters, and those actively voicing the matter. Coordinator of the Subcommission on Human Rights Enforcement and Komnas HAM Mediation Commissioner Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi in Jakarta on Wednesday stated that the assessment is ongoing to determine the level of risk and protection needs. “We are assessing 12 people,” he said. He mentioned indications of threats experienced by several parties that are currently being mapped by Komnas HAM. “There are indications of threats to at least 12 people,” he said. According to Pramono, the forms of threats that have emerged generally occur in digital spaces, including through social media and other online communications. Komnas HAM also emphasised that the identities of the parties experiencing threats cannot yet be disclosed to the public to safeguard their safety. “We cannot mention the names of these 12 people for safety reasons,” he said. In addition to the assessment, Komnas HAM is conducting mapping and profiling of the emerging threat patterns, including possible connections between actors. These efforts are intended to ensure that all parties involved in the legal process receive adequate protection, so that law enforcement efforts by authorities can proceed without pressure or intimidation.
