National Fuel Reserves Reach 28 Days, Government Assures Secure Supply
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has revealed that the current national fuel oil (BBM) reserves are in the range of 27 to 28 days. These stocks are deemed sufficient to fulfil the needs of the public. This was stated by Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot Tanjung during an inspection of BBM availability at the Rest Area KM 379A Batang on Wednesday (18/3/2026). He assured that the public’s BBM needs ahead of Eid can be met adequately. He explained that this situation indicates that energy supplies, both for transportation and electricity needs, remain at a safe level. Therefore, the public need not worry, including avoiding excessive purchases or panic buying. Yuliot emphasised that the government is not imposing any purchase restrictions on BBM during the Eid holiday period. “We have not implemented any restrictions. This applies to both the central government and regional governments,” he stated firmly. Nevertheless, he urged the public to remain orderly when refuelling at public fuelling stations (SPBU), especially if queues form. “So, for the public queuing at SPBU, please be patient, and avoid any disturbances. We will certainly serve as quickly as possible,” he said. He noted that the current electricity system capacity reaches 52 gigawatts (GW), while the peak load is at 35 percent. Thus, there is still a reserve or risk margin of around 48 percent from the average daily needs. “So, we have a reserve or risk margin of around 48 percent. Therefore, the public need not worry,” he said. Yuliot stressed that energy availability is the government’s primary concern, especially during periods of increased demand such as ahead of major holidays. “So, we hope that BBM availability for the public can be fulfilled from Sabang to Merauke, for those celebrating Eid al-Fitr. We are working hard to maintain energy availability,” he concluded.
