National Border Management Agency accelerates post-flood recovery in Aceh ahead of Eid al-Fitr
Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Border Management Agency (BNPP) has inspected flood-ravaged areas in Landuh Village, Aceh Tamiang District, to ensure that the acceleration of mud and debris clearance following the flash floods proceeds optimally.
“We hope that before Eid al-Fitr, most of the mud and debris will have been cleaned up so that public mobility returns to normal. After that, cleanup will continue to other villages that have also been affected,” said BNPP Secretary Major General Makhruzi Rahman in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He explained that the cleanup effort forms part of the integrated response being conducted by BNPP across several flood-affected areas in Aceh, including Pidie Jaya, Bireuen, and Aceh Tamiang districts. Specifically in Aceh Tamiang, cleanup activities are centred on Landuh Village with a 14-day completion target.
“I have been directly mandated by the Interior Minister, who chairs BNPP, to accelerate the recovery of flood-affected areas in Aceh by deploying heavy equipment including excavators and dump trucks to clear mud material that is blocking road access,” he said.
Meanwhile, Acting Regional Secretary of Aceh Tamiang District Syuibun Anwar praised BNPP’s swift action and concern in assisting disaster-affected communities.
“The Government of Aceh Tamiang expresses our deepest gratitude and appreciation to BNPP and their team for coming directly to help the community, particularly in cleaning up Landuh Village which has been affected by flooding,” he said.
During the inspection, the BNPP Secretary was accompanied by BNPP Expert Group member Nur Kholis. The expert group’s presence was to analyse and accelerate post-disaster recovery efforts in the field.
