Nasukawa to face Estrada in a bid to reclaim top contender spot for the WBC world title
Tokyo (ANTARA) - Japanese boxer Tenshin Nasukawa will face Juan Francisco Estrada to compete for the top contender position for the bantamweight (53.5 kg) world title of the World Boxing Council (WBC) on 11th April at the Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo.
“Both boxers showed mutual respect and confidence as their hands were raised as winners in the eliminatory match,” the WBC reported on its official website, as quoted in Jakarta on Thursday.
Nasukawa recently suffered a unanimous decision defeat against the defending champion, Takuma Inoue, a setback that has not diminished his ambition.
Nasukawa will host experienced Mexican boxer Juan Francisco Estrada, who has previously held world titles in the flyweight (50.8 kg) and super flyweight (52.1 kg) divisions.
The boxer, nicknamed Gallo, returned to victory in June 2025 against Karim Arce Lugo after a memorable and intense fight against Jesse Rodriguez.
Eight years older than Nasukawa, Estrada represents experience, technique, and the track record of a legend who is still active with a record of 45 wins (28 KOs) and four losses.
Another match featured in the event’s schedule is the fight between the number one contender in the WBC super flyweight division, Tomoya Tsuboi, and veteran boxer Pedro Guevara.
In addition, former light flyweight champion Kyosuke Takami will face former flyweight champion Angel Ayala Lardizabal in another match that promises intensity from the opening bell.
Tokyo is preparing to host a fight that combines young and experienced fighters, and the aspiration to compete for the world title in a night that could determine the future of the bantamweight division.
