NasDem Supports WFH for Civil Servants Every Friday to Save Fuel, Calls for Regular Evaluations
NasDem Deputy Chairman of Commission II in the DPR, Ujang Bey, has responded to the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday. Ujang believes that WFH as a measure to save fuel must be implemented immediately.
“I think the government has certainly studied and calculated it thoroughly before taking this policy step,” Ujang told reporters on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
“Regardless, the fuel-saving policy (WFH) indeed needs to be carried out as soon as possible by the government, given that we never know when the signs of the Iran vs Israel and US war will end,” he added.
Nevertheless, Ujang emphasised the importance of regular evaluations of the policy’s implementation. The government, he said, must continuously analyse the advantages and disadvantages of the WFH policy.
“Whether the policy can be changed in timing or expanded. It all depends on how effective the policy is in impacting fuel savings,” he stated.
Furthermore, Ujang warned of the potential for misuse of the WFH policy. He reminded that WFH is not an extension of the weekend holiday.
“Indeed, there were some concerns from colleagues in Commission II yesterday; don’t let the weekend WFH policy be seen as a long holiday and used as an opportunity to holiday with family or hang out with friends,” he said.
Ujang urged the government to anticipate potential violations in the WFH policy. One of them is by imposing firm and measured sanctions on ASN who do not carry out their work obligations.
“Those concerns need to be anticipated by the government; if there are ASN who violate, the government must give firm and measured sanctions. Because no matter how good the policy is, if it is not heeded and there are no sanctions for violators, I think it’s pointless, it will only become the subject of public ridicule,” he explained.
Previously, the government has set Friday as the day for implementing work from home or WFH for ASN. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the policy has been calculated based on experiences after handling COVID.
“Why Friday? Because some ministries have already done that, working four days in a week with applications, this is after the COVID yesterday,” Airlangga said in a press conference on Tuesday (31/3).
Airlangga also mentioned that the workload on Friday is not as heavy as on other days. However, he emphasised that public services will continue to run despite the implementation of WFH one day a week for ASN.
“We chose Friday because it’s half, meaning not full from Monday to Thursday. But public services will still run,” he stated.
