Narcotics officer now Tangerang chief

TANGERANG (JP): City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata
yesterday installed Lt. Col. Djoko Satrio as the new Tangerang
police chief, replacing Lt. Col. Hari Setiabudhi.

Djoko, 44, is a former head of the Jakarta narcotics police
division.

He graduated from the Police Academy in 1975, the Police
College in 1985 and the School for Senior Officers in 1991. He
spent most of his career in South Sumatra and Jakarta.

His record includes significant roles in arresting a number of
drug traffickers, including foreigners, in Jakarta.

His presence in Tangerang, a town better known for its rapid
growth of property projects, factories and entertainment centers,
is expected to help increase the public's role in securing their
respective neighborhoods.

His predecessor, Hari, has been appointed head of the Central
Java police detectives.

In his speech, Hamami ordered Djoko to maximize the limited
police personnel and equipment, and to ensure the 1997 general
election passes off peacefully.(bsr)
