JAKARTA: Singapore and China signed a loan agreement yesterday
with the Indonesian ministry of education and culture, pledging
their participation in the Non-Aligned Movement's contemporary
art exhibition which will be held here later this month.
The agreement, signed by Director General of Culture Edi
Sedyawati, Ambassador of Singapore Edward Lee Kwong Foo and the
Chinese Embassy's Counselor for Cultural Affairs Li Wen Zhong,
places the two countries on a list together with 47 other NAM
countries which have already signed similar agreements.
The loan agreement allows the works of artists from the two
countries to be exhibited at the event, scheduled to be held
between April 28 and June 30 in Jakarta.
Edi told reporters after the signing ceremony that the
curators who will be managing the event should avoid favoritism
in selecting the works of arts to be exhibited.
The exhibition, which will be opened by President Soeharto,
will be managed by curators at both the international and
national levels.
International curators are responsible for the choice of works
of art from selections made by national curators in the
respective countries.(pwn)
