JAKARTA - Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim has denied remaining involved in the corporate actions of PT Gojek Indonesia or PT AKAB after being sworn in as a minister.

The denial was made by Nadiem during the trial for the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (11/5/2026).

When the public prosecutor (JPU) raised the issue of the power of attorney given to Andre Soelistyo and Kevin regarding his share ownership before taking office as a public official,

The JPU questioned whether the power of attorney was created to disguise Nadiem’s role in the company while he was already serving as a public official.

“The main purpose of the power of attorney was to eliminate and sever all elements of conflict of interest,” Nadiem stated during the trial.

He also affirmed that he had released his authority in the company to avoid conflicts of interest.

“I chose to relinquish those rights to avoid conflicts of interest,” he said.

The debate between the JPU and Nadiem heated up when discussing the alleged sale of shares during the GoTo IPO in 2022.

Nadiem denied selling shares during the IPO, stating that Financial Services Authority (OJK) regulations prohibited it.

He also emphasised that there was no share sale in that year.

“There was not a single share sold in 2022 during the IPO because it was indeed not allowed by the OJK,” he asserted.

In this trial case, Nadiem Makarim along with three other defendants is said to have caused state financial losses amounting to Rp 2.1 trillion.

Nadiem is accused of enriching himself by Rp 809 billion.

This figure is said to stem from Google’s investment in Gojek or PT AKAB.

Meanwhile, Mulyatsyah is said to have received SGD 120,000 and USD 150,000.

This was done by directing the procurement study towards one product, namely Chrome-based devices which are a Google product.
