JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim has been readmitted to hospital and is unable to attend the continuation of the trial in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops in person.

“We cannot present the defendant today, and the defendant has conveyed that he can attend tomorrow,” stated the Head of the Prosecutors’ Team, Roy Riady, during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Roy said that Nadiem had been taken to Abdi Waluyo Hospital since Monday (4/5/2026) evening, after attending the hearing.

Since last night, Nadiem has been complaining of pain and feeling discomfort in the back part of his body.

“In summary of the medical statement, the patient named Nadiem Anwar Makarim has complaints of pain in the back area like that. Therefore, clean treatment is needed, so he is being treated at Abdi Waluyo Hospital,” Roy said.

Based on today’s doctor’s check, Nadiem has actually improved and has been declared fit to leave the hospital temporarily.

However, to the prosecutors who also examined at the hospital, Nadiem complained of still feeling pain and ultimately was not brought to the courtroom.

A medical summary from the hospital was submitted to the panel of judges.

After hearing explanations from the prosecutors and the legal advisory team, the panel of judges decided to postpone today’s examination to tomorrow, namely Wednesday (6/5/2026).

It is known that in the previous hearing, Nadiem attended the session but still had an IV drip attached to his hand.

The Monday hearing was also completed earlier because after Maghrib prayers, Nadiem claimed to feel weak and could no longer continue the hearing.

In this case, former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim, along with three other defendants, is said to have caused state financial losses amounting to Rp 2.1 trillion.

Nadiem is charged with enriching himself by Rp 809 billion.
