Nadiem Displays Detector Bracelet Ahead of Prosecution Hearing in Chromebook Case
“Yes (still wearing the detector bracelet), it can’t be removed,” said Nadiem Makarim at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Nadiem stated that he is only allowed to stay at home due to his status as a house detainee. He said he is not permitted to leave the house except for treatment and attending court proceedings. “Not allowed. Only allowed at home. Can’t go anywhere, only for trials or hospital treatment,” he said. Nadiem claimed he is ready to undergo the prosecution hearing this afternoon. He hopes to be freed from this case. “I’m just preparing mentally. I don’t know what else I can prove; all the trial facts are already very clear. So today, I’ll just listen to the prosecution’s version, and whether the trial facts form the basis of the prosecution, or if they are completely ignored,” said Nadiem. “Of course, the hoped-for outcome is an acquittal. Because from the trial facts, it should follow those facts. We’ll see later whether the trial facts matter in formulating the prosecution or not,” he added. In this case, Nadiem is charged with corruption related to the procurement of Chromebook laptops while serving as Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The project is said to have caused a state loss of Rp 2.1 trillion. Prosecutors stated that the calculation of the state loss of Rp 2.1 trillion comes from the overpricing of Chromebooks amounting to Rp 1,567,888,662,716.74 (1.5 trillion). Then, the procurement of unnecessary and unbeneficial CDM amounting to USD 44,054,426 or equivalent to approximately Rp 621,387,678,730.00 (621 billion). Besides Nadiem, there are three other defendants in this case. They are Sri Wahyuningsih, former Director of Primary Schools at the Directorate General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Secondary Education in 2020-2021; Mulyatsyah, former Director of Junior High Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2020; and Ibrahim Arief (IBAM), a consultant for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology during Nadiem’s era.
