Nadiem Complains of Illness, Prosecutor: Doctor's Examination Results Healthy and Normal
The agenda for Nadiem’s trial today was originally the examination of witnesses and expert witnesses from the defence side. The hearing was held at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
At the outset, the judge inquired about Nadiem’s health condition. The prosecutor explained that they had received a report of Nadiem complaining of illness since the previous night.
“Very well, we ask the Public Prosecutor regarding the Defendant up to nearly 3 o’clock. How is his attendance?” asked the chief judge Purwanto S Abdullah.
“Very well, Your Honour, first of all, we apologise for the delay in the trial agenda, which was supposed to be at 10 a.m., because we need to convey in this hearing that after yesterday’s session last night, we received information about Mr Nadiem Anwar Makarim’s complaints of illness, so he was taken to Abdi Waluyo Hospital,” said prosecutor Roy Riadi.
The prosecutor stated that Nadiem complained of pain and discomfort in the back area of his body. Nadiem was then taken to Abdi Waluyo Hospital last night.
“Then, when he was taken there on the night of 4 May 2026, based on the doctor’s certificate, which we will show, and the patient’s outpatient summary. In the conclusion of the medical statement, the patient named Nadiem Anwar Makarim has complaints in the back area, feeling painful like that. Therefore, clean treatment is needed, so he was admitted to Abdi Waluyo Hospital,” said the prosecutor.
The prosecutor said they received information that Nadiem could not attend the hearing today. The prosecutor then went to Abdi Waluyo Hospital to directly check Nadiem’s health condition.
“Then today, 5 May, as per the scheduled hearing, we received information that the defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim could not attend the hearing. Then I, as the head of the prosecution team, along with prosecution team members, and there we met one of his lawyers, Mr Zaid, we met the doctor treating Mr Nadiem Anwar Makarim directly and communicated, and I saw the defendant’s patient condition directly,” stated the prosecutor.
The prosecutor said the results of the doctor’s examination this morning declared Nadiem’s condition healthy and normal. The prosecutor noted that the doctor also allowed Nadiem to leave the hospital to attend the trial.
“We received medical information on 5 May, namely first in its conclusion: The defendant, patient named Nadiem Anwar Makarim, has no fever and his physical examination this morning is within normal limits,” said the prosecutor.
“That means, in conclusion, Mr Nadiem Anwar Makarim is actually in a healthy condition, so he is allowed to leave the hospital temporarily, in this case to carry out the trial process. We also received Mr Nadiem’s laboratory results, which in conclusion are normal,” he added.
However, when about to be taken to the Jakarta Corruption Court, Nadiem, according to the prosecutor, again complained of pain in the back area of his body. The prosecutor said that the pain complaint was very subjective.
“Then when I carried out the task to bring him to this hearing, Mr Nadiem Anwar Makarim conveyed his complaint of pain in the back area, so I confirmed again with the doctor. The doctor said that it is very subjective if the patient feels pain, but in principle, the doctor said he is in a normal and healthy condition,” said the prosecutor.
The prosecutor revealed that they could not present Nadiem at the hearing today. The prosecutor disclosed the results of Nadiem’s laboratory examination, which were also in a normal and healthy condition.
“Well, in conclusion, Your Honour, we cannot present the defendant today and the defendant stated that he can attend tomorrow, right, even though we have the doctor’s certificate or lab results concluding, and the doctor’s information concluding that he is in a normal and healthy condition,” said the prosecutor.
The prosecutor then showed the letter of Nadiem’s health condition examination to the panel of judges. The panel stated that today they could not continue the examination of this case.
“Very well, so according to the statement from the Public Prosecutor about the defendant’s condition who is still complaining of illness. For the next, today we cannot continue the examination and we schedule it for tomorrow, Wednesday, 6 May 2026, still an opportunity for the advocate to present witnesses or experts, yes. Okay. If his condition can be better, we hope he can attend in the morning as well, in the morning, as usual at 10 o’clock,” said the judge.
Nadiem’s lawyer, Zaid Mushafi, said that temperature and heart rate checks were indeed carried out on Nadiem. Zaid said that treatment would be carried out maximally so that tomorrow Nadiem can attend the hearing.
“Before closing, is there anything else the Public Prosecutor wants to convey? Enough. Advocate?” asked the judge.
“As we have already conveyed earlier, Your Honour, that the defendant is feeling pain in the back area. Indeed, there was a heart rate check or temperature examination, but what he feels is pain because I also entered the room earlier, that pain felt is in the back area,” said Zaid.
“Of course, secondly, we very much appreciate the quick action from the prosecution team last night directly taking him to the ER. Indeed, he was directly taken to the ER last night by the prosecution team and we greatly appreciate that so that appropriate handling can be done,” he added.
The panel finally postponed the hearing. The Chromebook trial with defendant Nadiem will continue tomorrow, Wednesday (6/5).
“For tomorrow, we will wait for the situation and condition tomorrow and today treatment will be carried out maximally so that tomorrow he can undergo the hearing maximally. That is all, Your Honour,” said Nadiem’s lawyer, Zaid.
“Very well. Clearly, tomorrow we will still open by checking the defendant’s condition. We hope it can be completed up to the examination, thoroughly. That is all, so for the next, we adjourn this hearing to Wednesday, 6 May 2026, for the advocate’s opportunity to present evidence. Hearing adjourned and closed,” concluded the judge.
Previously, Nadiem’s lawyer, Ari Yusuf Amir, said that Nadiem could not attend.
