Nadiem Claims Prosecutors' Demand: 18 Plus 9 Years, Greater Than Other Criminals
“Record. Greater than various other criminals. 18 plus 9,” said Nadiem Anwar Makarim after the prosecution hearing at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, Wednesday (13/5/2026). Nadiem claimed there was no element of corruption in this procurement. He questioned the demand against him being far greater than cases of murder and terrorism. “For what mistake? There is no administrative error at all, no element of corruption at all in my case, and the entire public already knows. So I’m confused. Why? Why is my demand greater than that for murderers? My demand is greater than that for terrorists?” said Nadiem. Nadiem expressed thanks to all parties who have supported him. He invited young people to monitor this case. “Thank you to the ojek drivers, thank you to the teachers, thank you to all the MBKM alumni. I don’t feel alone standing here because there are you all. I feel my shoulder is held by all the people who are part of our previous struggle,” said Nadiem. “So thank you, I’m standing there alone but I don’t feel alone. So thank you for the support of this nation. I hope the young people across Indonesia do not lose hope. I hope our country’s future is better. Thank you,” he added. Prosecutors’ Demand Against Nadiem Previously, former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim was demanded a 18-year prison sentence.
