The continuation of the examination of the defendant Nadiem was held at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (11/5/2026). Initially, the prosecutor asked about the investment made by Google in March 2020 amounting to USD 59.9 million to PT AKAB, which is the precursor to PT Gojek Indonesia. “I want you to explain in this trial, right, whether your motivation to issue Ministry of Education Regulation 11 of 2020, which mentions Windows but does not mention Chrome, is your motivation to conceal your actions?” asked the prosecutor. The prosecutor then continued his question regarding the motive for the investment. The prosecutor stated, at that time, whether it is true that Nadiem sought to ensure the use of Chrome OS in a meeting with Google executives. “Now I want you to explain, what is your motive for issuing the regulation not to Chrome but you held a meeting,” explained the prosecutor. “According to Mr. Ganis, it was already agreed to use Chrome, then there was an investment entering your company as a shareholder in 2020 amounting to 59 million dollars and 99 million dollars. Please explain,” added the prosecutor. “Clearly, there is no connection between the Google investment and the issuance of the Ministry of Education Regulation. First, the majority of Google’s investment occurred before I became minister,” Nadiem replied. “Second, it is clear from Google’s testimony that their investment after I became Minister was only to avoid dilution due to the large number of other investors putting money into the same round. So this is a very common thing; Google was one of the smallest parts in every round in 2020 and 2021,” he concluded.
