Police have established a man with initials HM (24), the driver of a black Toyota Calya who drove recklessly against traffic and collided with multiple vehicles in the Gunung Sahari area, Central Jakarta, as a suspect. Police revealed findings of four different registration plates in the vehicle, the purpose of which remains unclear.

According to detikcom on Friday (27/2/2026), the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (25/2). The vehicle was initially spotted by officers driving recklessly amid heavy Jakarta traffic.

“The officer then instructed the driver to pull over, but the instruction was ignored. We then followed him as he turned into Gunung Sahari IV road, so he was circling into Gunung Sahari IV,” explained Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate Commander Kombes Komarudin.

Rather than reducing speed, HM accelerated further. The vehicle sped recklessly along the roads and was eventually chased by officers.

“There on that small road, high speed was captured on our patrol car’s dashcam. From there he turned left towards Bungur, and the critical part came when entering Gunung Sahari V, which is a one-way road from Pasar Baru towards Bungur. Many vehicles and motorcycles nearly became victims as he maintained high speed,” he explained.

At the Pasar Baru intersection, HM entered Jalan Budi Utomo against traffic in the right lane. Officers chased the reckless driver travelling at high speed.

“Officers stopped at the intersection, the vehicle then spun around in the middle of the road and came back to the intersection. At the left turn intersection, officers were positioned there, he nearly hit one of our members. He then turned towards Ancol and was instructed to stop but refused,” he said.

From there the suspect continued towards Ancol and was chased by officers. However, shortly thereafter, the suspect encountered traffic congestion and subsequently drove against traffic again, colliding with multiple vehicles.

“Officers continued to follow. When reaching the Ancol area at Pintu Besi traffic light, there was a red light and a queue of vehicles. Perhaps he was blocked by the queue, but instead he turned around again towards Pasar Baru, in the same lane, not changing lanes. This was all captured on camera,” he concluded.

Police secured HM (24), the driver of the black Toyota Calya involved in the reckless driving incident against traffic with collisions in the Gunung Sahari area, Central Jakarta. The suspect has been formally designated as such.

“Yes (designated as suspect),” said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Reynold EP Hutagalung when contacted on Thursday (26/2/2026).

Traffic Directorate Commander Kombes Komaruddin stated the suspect faces charges under Article 311 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transport (LLAJ).

“For Article 311 Subsections (1), (2), and (3),” said Komarudin separately.

Police revealed findings of multiple registration plates discovered in the Toyota Calya involved in the reckless driving incident with collisions in Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta. Police are currently investigating the purpose of these plates.

“Four different registration plate pairs were found in the vehicle: two B-series plates, one G-series plate, and one B-series plate,” said Traffic Directorate Commander Kombes Komarudin when contacted by detikcom on Thursday (26/2/2026).

The four registration plates are B-1235-NIL, B-2932-BZF, G-1877-ZZ, and D-1640-AHB. Regarding these four plates, the Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit is currently investigating their purpose.

“We are still investigating the purpose of these plates,” he stated.

In addition to the four registration plate pairs, two sharp weapons and a toy firearm were found.

“Other findings are currently being developed by Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation,” he said.

Apart from fake plates, HM did not possess a driving licence (SIM) or vehicle registration document (STNK).

“The fake registration plate being driven by the suspect, D-1640-AHB, was fitted to the vehicle,” said Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Head Kombes Budi Hermanto in his statement on Thursday (26/2/2026).
