The government faces a policy dilemma with no truly comfortable solution. The Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) hosted a seminar titled “FTTH, FWA & Mobile Broadband: Which Strategy is Best for Accelerating Equitable Digital Access in Indonesia.” Several industry players supported the event, including MyRepublic Indonesia, which participated as an industry representative to share perspectives on broadband network implementation and deployment strategies in Indonesia. During the occasion, MyRepublic reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating national digital access equity. In the discussion session, Hendra Gunawan, Chief Technology Officer of MyRepublic Indonesia, appeared as a speaker alongside Ian Josef Matheus Edward, Lecturer at STEI ITB; Denny Setiawan, Director of Strategy and Digital Infrastructure Policy at Komdigi; and Merza Fachys, General Secretary of the All-Indonesia Telecommunications Operators Association (ATSI). Hendra Gunawan outlined various challenges and strategies in developing FTTH (Fibre to the Home) and FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) networks, particularly in addressing connectivity needs across different regions. “FTTH and FWA have different challenge characteristics, from investment needs and construction complexity in FTTH to spectrum limitations and service quality in FWA. Therefore, MyRepublic applies a region-specific approach, focusing FTTH on dense areas with high bandwidth demands, while FWA serves as a solution to accelerate penetration in semi-urban areas,” he emphasised. Complementary Roles He stressed that the development of FTTH and FWA is not heading towards substitution but rather complementarity. FTTH remains the primary backbone for delivering stable, high-capacity connectivity. Meanwhile, FWA plays a complementary role in expanding service reach and opening new market opportunities. Although FWA price dynamics in the market do not directly impact FTTH services, this remains an industry concern in shaping future price expectations. MyRepublic Indonesia has introduced a reliable, unlimited, and stable full fibre optic network with high capacity to support various digital needs of society, from productivity activities to entertainment. With coverage continuously expanding across various cities, MyRepublic’s FTTH service becomes the primary choice for those requiring high-quality and consistent internet connections. Meanwhile, in areas not yet reached by fibre, FWA can serve as an alternative solution to provide adequate broadband access. “We view FTTH, FWA, and mobile not as competitors but as complementary solutions. Appropriate regulatory support and incentives will greatly determine the industry’s speed in expanding service reach. With a customer-needs and region-condition-based approach, we are optimistic about delivering more equitable, high-quality, and affordable connectivity,” Hendra added. Contribution to the Digital Ecosystem On the other hand, MyRepublic Indonesia’s participation in this seminar is part of the company’s efforts to continuously contribute to Indonesia’s digital ecosystem development through cross-sector collaboration. Besides sharing industry experience and insights, MyRepublic’s presence is expected to provide more practical understanding for students and the public regarding broadband technology implementation dynamics in the field. Moving forward, MyRepublic Indonesia is committed to continuously providing high-quality internet services through adaptive and sustainable network development, as well as supporting the government’s vision in accelerating digital access equity throughout Indonesia. MyRepublic Indonesia is a leading provider of fibre optic-based internet and subscription TV services in Indonesia. The company focuses on delivering fast, stable, and affordable connectivity for society and businesses. MyRepublic Indonesia offers two residential connectivity solutions: fibre optic networks via Fibre to the Home (FTTH) services and wireless networks via Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology, to provide broader and more equitable internet access. With a fibre network covering 162 cities and regencies across Indonesia, MyRepublic Indonesia continues its commitment to being Indonesia’s pride.
