Myanmar, Thailand discuss border
BANGKOK (AFP): A senior Myanmarese military delegation arrived
here on Monday for high-level talks on border affairs with its
Thai counterpart, state-run Radio Rangoon reported.
The 19-member delegation was headed by Myanmar's South Eastern
Army Region Commander Maj. Gen. Ket Sein, the report said in a
dispatch monitored here.
The talks which scheduled to be held in the northern Thai city
Phitsanulok was 11th regular meeting after the two countries set
up the border committee in 1989, according to the radio.
The Thai-Myanmarese border has been a focus of tension in
recent weeks between the neighboring countries.
The Thais have been concerned about the fate of thousands of
ethnic Karen who fled Yangon offensives since earlier this year
and have been camped along Thailand's western border.
