Muslims pack Al-Aqsa Mosque for Eid al-Adha 1447 AH celebrations
Washington (ANTARA) - The courtyard of the occupied Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem was packed with Muslims beginning the four-day Eid al-Adha 1447 AH celebrations on Wednesday.
Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s (known as Abraham to Christians and Jews) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail upon Allah’s command. On this day, Muslims perform the sacrificial ritual, with the meat distributed to the poor.
Eid al-Adha 1447 AH, one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar, is observed by Palestinians amid ongoing Israeli ceasefire violations since October 2025. The agreement was intended to halt Israel’s war, which has killed over 72,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured more than 172,000. Israeli aggression in Gaza since October 2023 has also destroyed 90% of civilian infrastructure in the enclave.
