Museum MH Thamrin to be Revitalised into Jakarta History Learning Centre with Rp15 Billion Budget
Jakarta — The Jakarta provincial government has announced plans to revitalise the MH Thamrin Museum located on Jalan Kenari, Senen District, Central Jakarta. Governor Pramono Anung stated that the revitalisation budget for the museum, dedicated to the notable Betawi figure, is estimated at Rp15 billion.
“I have already decided in a meeting last week that we will revitalise the Husni Thamrin Museum. The cost will be Rp15 billion,” said Pramono whilst delivering remarks at a joint breaking of the fast event with the Betawi Community Council at Masjid Jami Tangkuban Perahu on Monday, 2 March 2026.
He believes that MH Thamrin played a significant role in Jakarta’s history and among the Betawi people, deserving of greater recognition and honour.
“When I see the Husni Thamrin Museum, what comes to mind is how a figure who has developed Jakarta, who has developed Batavia, who has developed the Betawi people, we are not giving appropriate respect,” he said.
Pramono hopes that the revitalisation will not only improve the physical building but also enhance its educational function for the public, particularly students visiting Jakarta.
“I want this museum to be a place where when people come to Jakarta, especially students, they don’t just visit the National Monument, Ancol, or Taman Mini,” said Pramono.
He hopes to diversify historical destinations in the capital beyond the National Monument, Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).
The revitalised MH Thamrin Museum could become a key destination for learning about Jakarta’s history.
“I truly hope they will learn from Husni Thamrin and we will make this museum truly worthy and appropriate for people to learn about Jakarta,” Pramono concluded.
