MUI Welcomes Eid al-Adha: Let Us Pray for the Government and Citizens to Work Together
“The Indonesian Council of Islamic Scholars serves as a unifying force for Muslims, working alongside the government on strategic initiatives to serve our community and nation,” said MUI Secretary-General Amirsyah Tambunan at a press conference in Jakarta on Sunday (17 May 2026). “Therefore, let us celebrate this Eid al-Adha as part of our collective effort to express gratitude for Allah’s blessings.”
He stated that performing the sacrificial ritual during Eid al-Adha is an act of charity aimed at enhancing social awareness and sensitivity towards others. He emphasized the need for Indonesian society to strengthen its bonds.
“Eid al-Adha signifies drawing closer to Allah SWT. Therefore, sacrificing animals involves shedding materialistic desires and demonstrating our compassion, highlighting that Indonesia is a great nation,” Amirsyah added.
“Let us continue to foster social awareness and care, and let us pray for the government of the Republic of Indonesia and its people to work together, supporting each other in strengthening our unity,” he continued.
MUI also offered prayers for the smooth execution of the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. They prayed that Indonesian pilgrims performing their religious duties in Saudi Arabia will have a blessed Hajj.
“Finally, let us pray for our brothers and sisters in Mecca who are currently performing the Hajj pilgrimage, wishing them a blessed Hajj,” he said.
