MUI: Simultaneous Celebration of Eid al-Adha in 2026 to Strengthen Unity Among Muslims
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Council of Islamic Scholars (MUI) stated that the simultaneous celebration of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri will be an important moment to strengthen unity among Muslims.
The Secretary General of MUI, Amirsyah Tambunan, said that Eid al-Adha is also a moment to increase social awareness through sacrificial worship and community spirit.
“Hopefully, Eid al-Adha can be celebrated together simultaneously in order to strengthen the unity of Muslims in Indonesia and throughout the Islamic world,” said Amirsyah after the isbat session at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, Jakarta, Sunday (17/5/2026).
“The Indonesian Council of Islamic Scholars as a large tent for Muslims together with the government carries out strategic work as shodiqul hukumah and continues to be committed to serving our people and nation, which we know as khodimul ummah,” said Amirsyah.
Amirsyah also invited the public to make sacrificial worship a form of gratitude while increasing social solidarity in the community that needs help.
“We invite all of us to celebrate this Eid al-Adha as part of our effort to be grateful for Allah’s blessings, perform sacrifices, and make these sacrifices part of our good deeds,” he said.
He added that the meaning of Eid al-Adha is not only limited to the slaughter of sacrificial animals, but also a symbol of eliminating greed in humans.
“Celebrating Eid al-Adha means getting closer to Allah SWT, which includes sacrificing animals, which is sacrificing the traits of greed and selfishness, while we also show our concern,” said Amrisyah.
Amirsyah also invited the public to continue strengthening the spirit of mutual cooperation and pray for Indonesian pilgrims who are performing their pilgrimage in the Holy Land so that they can achieve a blessed Hajj.
Previously reported, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar announced that the government had set Eid al-Adha 2026 to fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The decision was made during an isbat session after the government combined the results of calculations and rukyatul hilal from 88 monitoring points spread throughout Indonesia.
Previously, the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah had also announced that Eid al-Adha 2026 would fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
