Muhammadiyah opens center in Yogya
YOGYAKARTA: The country's second largest Muslim organization,
Muhammadiyah, opened a study center here on Monday to provide
information on the organization and its role in the Muslim
community.
The inauguration of the study center located, on the campus of
Muhammadiyah University, was marked with the signing by
Muhammadiyah chairman Syafii Maarif of a photograph of the
organization's founding father, Ahmad Dahlan. The photo will be
displayed inside the center.
Syafii said the study center would keep all documents and
literature on Muhammadiyah.
"I hope this study center will not become just like a 'dead'
museum but, instead, a dynamic institution for all Muslims in
general, and specially Muhammadiyah scholars, to conduct
scientific activities. Such a center has long been needed to help
develop studies on Islam and Muhammadiyah in the country," he
said.
Syafii also said that the center was directly under the
supervision of Muhammadiyah's central executive board.
The establishment of the center was based on a instruction
issued by Muhammadiyah's central executive board. --JP
