Muhammadiyah Members in Bali Urged to Perform Takbir at Home During Nyepi Observance
Muhammadiyah members in Denpasar, Bali, have been urged to conduct the Takbir night prayer at their respective homes without using loudspeakers. This guidance has been issued because the Takbir night for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah coincides with Catur Brata Penyepian, or Nyepi, Bali’s Hindu Day of Silence.
Muhammadiyah has determined that Eid al-Fitr falls on 20 March 2026, meaning the Takbir night will be held on 19 March 2026.
The Muhammadiyah Denpasar Regional Leadership (PDM) has issued a directive to Muhammadiyah members regarding the observance of Takbir and Eid al-Fitr prayers, which fall close to the Nyepi celebration.
“In the spirit of tolerance and brotherhood among people of different faiths, and considering the joint agreement of the religious councils with the Forum for Religious Harmony (FKUB), the Muhammadiyah Denpasar Regional Leadership issues this statement,” wrote Tatang Wisnu Wardhana, Chairman of PDM Denpasar, on Thursday (12 March 2026).
In the directive, Muhammadiyah members are urged to conduct the Takbir night on 19 March at their respective homes without using loudspeakers.
Eid Prayers After Nyepi Concludes
In addition to Takbir, PDM Denpasar has also urged members to schedule their departure for Eid al-Fitr prayers on 20 March.
Members are requested to depart for the prayer location after 06:00 WITA, or precisely after Nyepi concludes.
“The committee organising the Islamic celebration that conducts the Eid al-Fitr prayer can adjust the timing of implementation so it proceeds with solemnity and order,” explained Tatang.
Tatang called upon all parties to commit to jointly preserving the observance of Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr with wisdom, tranquillity, and brotherhood.
“And it is urged that people not be easily swayed by various circulating information that damages the harmony of interfaith relations,” Tatang concluded.
