Muhammadiyah Condemns Israeli Attacks on Iran, Citing Violations of Human Rights and International Law
Muhammadiyah has issued an official stance following the escalation of conflict in the Middle East resulting from attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran. The Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah has strongly condemned these actions and views them as violations of human rights and international law.
“We strongly condemn the attacks and regard them as violations of Human Rights, international law, and disregard for United Nations decisions,” stated Syafiq A. Mughni, Chairman of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah, in a written statement received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
In Statement Letter No. 16/PER/I.0/B/2026 regarding the Middle Eastern conflict, Muhammadiyah stated that the attacks constitute disregard for United Nations (UN) decisions.
Muhammadiyah also expressed sorrow and condolences for the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other victims of the attacks. Condolences were also extended to victims of Iranian counter-attacks in several Arab countries.
Muhammadiyah has called for the United Nations to impose strict sanctions on the United States and Israel for these violations and to implement them through concrete measures.
“We urge the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to immediately take steps to end the genocide against the Palestinian people, as well as all forms of violence, and to prevent increasing tensions between countries in the Middle East,” said Syafiq.
Additionally, Muhammadiyah has appealed to Iran and Arab countries to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue to avoid becoming further involved in conflict amongst fellow OIC members.
Muhammadiyah has also advocated for pursuing diplomatic and dialogue channels to resolve the conflict in the region, and called on all countries, multilateral and bilateral institutions, religious figures, and civil society to create global peace and justice.
“We call on all countries, multilateral and bilateral institutions, religious figures and civil society forces to help create global peace and justice and to condemn all forms of arbitrary action that causes damage and destruction of civilisation on earth,” said Syafiq.
