Chairman of the Central Leadership (PP) Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, has asked religious figures to avoid statements or utterances regarding differences in the determination of the date for Idulfitri 1447 H that could stir up unrest in society.

“Religious figures, avoid statements or utterances that instead create an unfavourable atmosphere in society,” said Haedar after performing Idulfitri 1447 H prayers at UMY in Bantul, DIY, on Friday (20/3).

Haedar believes that the Indonesian nation is capable of behaving most maturely amid situations or matters of difference like this.

For that reason, Haedar hopes that no one needs to seek any arguments as self-justification and to condemn others regarding this difference in Eid timing.

“We do not need to highlight or sharpen differences. First, because we are accustomed to being different. Second, there is no need to seek any arguments to justify ourselves and then condemn others who differ, whether their orientation is civic or governmental,” he hoped.

Furthermore, Haedar hopes that Muslims will prioritise greater devotion in performing worship to enhance personal quality.

“Observe Idulfitri, whether on the 20th [March] or the 21st, or even yesterday, to be more devoted in worship and to foster piety in soul and mind, so that we are not tempted by desires of difference that sharpen cracks and erode brotherhood,” said Haedar.

PP Muhammadiyah has determined that 1 Syawal or Idulfitri 1447 Hijriah falls on Friday, 20 March 2026. This determination is contained in the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah’s Decree Number 2/MLM/1.0/E/2025 on the Determination of the Results of the Calculation of Ramadan, Syawal, and Zulhijah 1447 H.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Government has set Hari Raya Idulfitri 1447 Hijriah or Eid al-Fitr 2026 to fall on Saturday, 21 March, based on the results of the isbat session held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday, Thursday (19/3).
