JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The celebration of Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran in Indonesia will once again not be simultaneous in 2026 or 1447 Hijriah. Before the government, the Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah has determined that 1 Shawwal falls on Friday, 20 March 2026. Meanwhile, the government, through the isbat session on Thursday (19/3/2026) evening, has decided that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday, 21 March 2026. Amid these differences, both Muhammadiyah and the government are promoting the importance of mutual respect and maintaining brotherhood among fellow citizens. According to Haedar, concern is an essential part of strengthening the social network of the ummah. This concern, he said, is not only directed towards the domestic community but also towards brothers in various parts of the world who need assistance. He also touched on the situation in Palestine, Iran, and several other regions that are deemed to require attention and helping hands. “Giving is a call from the spirit of our Islam to anyone without discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, race, group, or nation. And that is what we must embody after the month of Ramadan,” said Haedar. He described the ability to restrain anger as one of the traces of Ramadan that must be continuously upheld. According to him, excessive anger should be avoided to prevent damaging human relationships. On that occasion, Haedar also reminded the importance of forgiving others as part of the morals of a Muslim, as well as having the greatness of heart to ask for forgiveness for mistakes that have been made. Haedar views Eid al-Fitr as an important momentum for strengthening silaturahmi. This tradition, he said, is capable of improving the quality of relationships, both within families, society, and between nations. “In the month of Shawwal, when Muslims begin 1 Shawwal as the first day of Eid al-Fitr and at the same time start a new day, then a very good habit is to maintain silaturahmi,” said Haedar.
