Mudik Traffic Surge Prompts Implementation of National Cikampek–Kalikangkung One-Way System
The government, in collaboration with the police, has officially implemented a one-way traffic engineering system on the Cikampek to Kalikangkung toll road stretch in Semarang, Central Java, on Wednesday afternoon (18/3). This policy was enacted in response to the surge in vehicle volume ahead of the peak mudik flow for Eid al-Fitr 2026. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi explained that the significant increase in the number of mudik travellers today was the primary reason for applying the one-way system from kilometre 70 of the Cikampek Main to kilometre 414 of Kalikangkung. “Given the significant increase in the number of mudik participants today, it has been decided to implement the national one-way system comprehensively,” he stated in an official remark. “If the V/C ratio exceeds a certain threshold, the one-way system is applied. However, if it decreases, the traffic flow will return to normal,” Dudy added. The government, through the Ministry of Transport, continues to monitor vehicle movements on both toll roads and arterial routes. Intensive coordination is also being conducted with the police and toll road operators to ensure the smooth flow of mudik traffic. Drivers are urged to remain cautious during their journeys and comply with traffic rules. Mudik participants are also advised to rest at rest areas if feeling fatigued to avoid accident risks. Meanwhile, West Java Police Chief Rudi Setiawan emphasised that his forces would provide maximum escort for mudik travellers passing through West Java to ensure safe journeys to their destinations.
