Muaro Jambi District (ANTARA) — Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H celebrations, traffic flow on the East Sumatra Cross Route (Jalinsum), which connects Jambi Province to Riau Province, remains congested but operating smoothly.

To date, no significant congestion has been observed on the main corridor, which serves as a vital artery for homecoming travellers heading towards Riau and North Sumatra.

Ipda Kandardin, Head of the Sekernan Security Post (Kapospam) under Muaro Jambi Police, stated on Sunday that whilst the current situation remains under control, police predict a surge in vehicle volume in the near term.

“Currently, the average number of vehicles passing through is between 500 and 700 vehicles per hour, from both directions—Jambi to Riau and vice versa—but predominantly from Jambi towards Riau,” he explained.

Based on field observations, vehicles passing through are predominantly private cars registered in Jambi Province (BH licence plates), including vehicles from Jakarta, West Java, and Central Java.

He predicted that the peak mudik traffic would occur on 16 and 17 March, with vehicle volume estimated to surge to approximately 2,000 vehicles per hour during the peak mudik period.

On this occasion, police continue to remind travellers to prioritise their safety during the journey, given the considerable distance travelled across Sumatra’s main routes.

This includes making use of the security posts stationed along the route to rest if feeling fatigued or drowsy.

“Ensure that your vehicle is in good condition before undertaking a long journey,” he said.
