Muba Regent HM. Toha Tohet Guarantees Protection of Workers' Rights and Ensures Compliance
SUARAPUBLIK.ID, MUBA – 1 May 2026 – In commemoration of International Labour Day (May Day) 2026, the Musi Banyuasin District Government has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a just, harmonious, and transparent labour climate. Musi Banyuasin Regent, HM. Toha Tohet, provided an official, humane, and firm response to the aspirations of the peaceful workers’ action to realise the vision of a Faster Progressing Muba.
On this occasion, the Regent was accompanied by Muba Police Chief AKBP Ruri Prastowo SH, SIK, MIK, Chair of Commission I of the Muba DPRD Indra Kesumajaya, S.H., M.Si, Deputy Chair of Commission I Andri Septa, S.H., Member of Commission IV Alfian, Assistant I Ardiansyah, Head of Kesbangpol Thabrani Rizki, Head of Satpol PP Erdian Syahri, Head of Disnakertrans Muba Herryandi Sinulingga, AP, and representative of the Provincial Labour Supervisory UPTD of South Sumatra, Yuanita.
Regent HM. Toha Tohet emphasised that the Musi Banyuasin District Government is fully committed to overseeing every regulation concerning the basic rights of workers in its territory.
“All aspirations and demands conveyed by fellow workers today will be followed up in accordance with the applicable labour mechanisms and rules. My authority as Regent is to maintain a healthy investment climate, but on the other hand, I am obliged to defend the rights of workers as stipulated in the Manpower Law and its derivatives,” asserted HM. Toha Tohet.
Concrete Steps and Legislative Oversight
In line with the Regent’s commitment, Chair of Commission I of the Muba DPRD, Indra Kesumajaya, S.H., M.Si, revealed concrete steps by the parliament in responding to reports from workers regarding alleged violations in the field.
“Regarding the 12 companies reported by the workers, we will immediately schedule a Hearing Meeting (RDP). This is our oversight function to represent the community and workers. We will fight for workers’ rights fairly and ensure that companies comply with labour regulations and other rules,” stated Indra Kesumajaya.
Strategic Response from the Musi Banyuasin District Government
Head of the Labour and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans) of Muba, Herryandi Sinulingga, AP, along with the Provincial Supervisory UPTD, outlined technical points regarding the demands of the action masses:
Provision of Dialogue Space: The government fully supports strengthening the Muba District Tripartite LKS and invites labour organisations to actively participate in formulating official regional policies.
Enforcement of Wage Justice: Ensuring compliance with the 2026 UMK and UMSK in accordance with the Governor of South Sumatra’s Decree. Disnakertrans provides a Complaint Hotline (WA: 0822-7983-0006 / 0813-7333-3323) for workers whose rights are not fulfilled.
Work System Supervision: Tightening rules on PKWT and Outsourcing in accordance with Law No. 6 of 2023. Every contract must be officially recorded to prevent labour exploitation.
Anti-Union Busting: The government guarantees freedom of association. All forms of union busting are criminal acts and will be firmly addressed by Labour Supervisors.
Infrastructure Commitment: Repairing damaged roads is a priority in the 22 Priority Programmes (22 PP) of Musi Banyuasin 2025-2029 to support worker mobility.
Herryandi Sinulingga reiterated that the government will not hesitate to impose administrative sanctions up to recommendations for business permit suspensions for stubborn companies against supervision notes.
“Through the spirit of this May Day, we want to ensure that in Musi Banyuasin, the rule of law is paramount for protecting workers’ rights and ensuring business operational certainty. Let us maintain this partnership spirit for shared welfare,” concluded Herryandi Sinulingga.
