MSCI Impact: Prajogo's Wealth Vanishes Rp 69 Trillion on His Birthday
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The wealth of Indonesia’s richest person, Prajogo Pangestu, has once again plummeted sharply after the shares in his portfolio collectively tumbled during trading today, Wednesday (13/5/2026), on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI). In total, the losses borne by Prajogo are estimated to reach Rp 69 trillion following MSCI’s announcement excluding shares of the Barito Group from that prestigious index. This announcement coincides with Prajogo Pangestu’s birthday; he was born in West Kalimantan on 13 May 1944, making today his 84th birthday as Indonesia’s tycoon. Today, MSCI announced that shares of BREN, TPIA, and CUAN are exiting the MSCI Global Standard Index. Six shares owned by Prajogo all closed in the red zone, namely Barito Renewables Energy (BREN), Chandra Daya Investasi (CDIA), Petrosea (PTRO), Petrindo Jaya Kreasi (CUAN), Barito Pacific (BRPT), and Chandra Asri Pacific (TPIA). The collapse of Prajogo’s shares also dragged the IHSG down nearly 2% to the 6,700 level. Prajogo’s shares were also among the top 10 issuers weighing most heavily on the IHSG’s performance today. Specifically, Prajogo holds a direct 71.37% stake in BRPT, with losses from today’s trading amounting to Rp 13.38 trillion. In TPIA, Prajogo holds 5.03% directly and 34.63% through BRPT, with total losses from today’s trading reaching Rp 19.29 trillion. Then there is CUAN, 81.90% directly owned by Prajogo, with total losses worth Rp 8.74 trillion. CDIA and PTRO each incurred losses for Prajogo of Rp 1.11 trillion and Rp 1.31 trillion, respectively. Finally, BREN, with 64.64% owned through BRPT, suffered the largest loss at Rp 25.31 trillion. Thus, Prajogo’s total losses from today’s trading amount to Rp 69 trillion. More broadly, the six shares owned by Prajogo caused the stock exchange’s market capitalisation to evaporate by Rp 159 trillion today. The plunge in BREN shares and other Prajogo-owned issuers occurred after news that Morgan Stanley Capital International. Prajogo’s net worth has been on a trajectory of significant decline; previously in May 2024, his wealth peaked at US70billionorequivalenttoRp1, 200trillion(assuminganexchangerateofRp17, 400/US).
